Applied AI News 2
Main message
When it comes to applications of AI and Machine Learning these days, we are mostly limited by our imagination, which at its core is limited by our exposure to possibilities. The intention of this series of posts is to make the audience more aware of how AI and Machine Learning are leveraged by industries, exposing the reader to new applications, and extending the opportunities one could imagine in their daily business.Summary of the week
- Application to manufacturing: Machinery maintenance and quality are the largest areas where AI is impacting.
- Competition to get better: It is known that Europe is behind in the area of AI applications comparing to US, Canada, and Australia. Here is how they are planning forward to catch up.
- Audio generation: Creating audio/music is a very important topic, can be used to generate music personalized to any listener. There has been progress in this, and now you can actually listen to such music.
- AI in the industry: By 2035, AI-powered technologies could increase labor productivity by up to 40% across 16 industries, including manufacturing.
Video of the week
- Chemistry and material: AI using another AI to make decisions is pretty interesting, yet a bit risky because of potential error propagation. An AI designed over 10 years ago was improved in its predictive power to describe properties of chemical compounds today feeds another AI to design chemical compounds with given properties.
- The danger of AI: AI ruling the world has been one of the potential risks considered for this technology (I personally am not concerned about this, but sharing this article anyway). One way governments are making sure this would not happen has been through ruling AI.
- Natural language processing: Coronavirus has impacted many aspects of our lives, and here is another one. As the number of articles increases in the area of "curing" COVID19 patients, it is becoming more difficult to read all of those articles and make a final conclusion. An AI has been designed to read them, summarize them, and make them available to researchers to make a better path forward.
- Curios machine: Curiosity has been an interesting phenomenon, and been unique to humans rather than machines. New approaches, however, have been challenging this thought by introducing a type of apparent curiosity to reinforcement learning to explore solutions more effectively.
- AI infra: Infrastructure for AI is essential, which has been targeted by Microsoft and Open AI partnership. The outcome is a massive supercomputer (the fifth most powerful in history) to accelerate designing new AI algorithms.
- AI applications: AI is getting into everything, including financial services. Check out how.
